Calling Your Nurse

Your nurse or hospitality representative will explain your call bell to you upon admission. 


Coffee Shop

Electrical Appliances

Electrical appliances such as curling irons, heating pads and portable heaters are not permitted in patient rooms. Chargers under 50 volts are permitted.


Fire Safety

Phelps periodically conducts fire drills. If you hear an alarm, stay where you are. In the event of an actual emergency, hospital staff will give you instructions.


Gift Shop

The gift shop at Phelps offers a variety of inspirational items, jewelry, fashion accessories, home décor, snacks and toiletries. Gift selections include balloons, cards, gift baskets, items for new babies and toys for children. If you are unable to visit your loved one while they are staying with us, we would be happy to deliver a gift for you. Staffed by dedicated volunteers, all proceeds benefit patient care at Phelps. The shop is located across from the Black Cow coffee bar. Most credit cards are accepted. Contact us at 914-366-3174 or 914-366-3183.

Hearing or Visually Impaired

If you are hearing impaired or visually impaired and need assistance, please contact your nurse.


Housekeeping Services

Rooms are thoroughly cleaned daily. To contact Housekeeping Services, please call ext. 3215.


Interpretation Services

If you need help understanding or communicating in English, Phelps will provide interpretation services free of charge. Let your nurse know if you need this service.


Leave Your Valuables at Home

Please give valuables to a relative or friend to take care of during your stay. Store contact lenses, eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures and other personal belongings in the bedside table. If you cannot send valuables home, ask your nurse about depositing them with the cashier. The hospital is not responsible for valuables that the patient keeps during their hospitalization.


Lost and Found

For lost items, please contact Security (ext. 3212).


Mail and Flowers

Mail and packages will be delivered to you by a Phelps Team Member. Any mail received after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address. Outgoing mail may be taken to the nursing station or given to your attending nurse. Postage stamps are available for purchase in the gift shop and at the Vivo Pharmacy located on the first floor of the 777 building. Please note that flowers are prohibited in the Intensive Care Unit.


Parking

All parking at Phelps is free. Patients and visitors may park in the garage or any lot.


Pastoral Care

Hospital chaplains are available to provide spiritual care to patients and families, regardless of faith tradition. Board-certified chaplains are trained to help people find healing, hope and comfort while experiencing the challenges that come up during a hospital stay. Chaplains can also help connect patients with community clergy volunteers. Ask your nurse for details or call the Pastoral Care office at 914-366-3090


The Phelps Chapel is a nondenominational quiet space for prayer and meditation. It is on the first floor of the hospital (near Radiology) and is open 24 hours a day.


Patient Meals

Patients may order meals from Patient Food Services from 6:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Call Center staff help patients make selections that meet dietary guidelines based on their prescribed diet. If your family member or loved one is staying with us, you can place a food order for them. Please call 914-366-3663.

Public Restrooms

Visitors are asked to not use the bathrooms in patient rooms. Public restrooms are located off the main lobby and off the elevator lobby on the first floor.


Smoking

Phelps is a smoke-free institution. The use of any smoking products (including vaping and e-cigarettes) is not permitted anywhere in the hospital or on hospital grounds, including in the parking lots and garage.


TV and Telephone Service

TV, movies on demand, telephone and guest Wi-Fi services are available at no charge. Many free educational videos are offered on the bedside TV or iPad. Please keep the TV volume low or use a headset, turn off your TV at bedtime and speak quietly during phone conversations.


Visiting Hours

Patients may choose who may and may not visit. Visitation shall not be limited based upon the visitor’s legal relationship to the patient, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age or disability. The hospital may limit visitation if the visitors’ presence infringes on the rights or safety of others, or is not in the medical best interest of the patient.

In addition to our main lobby waiting area, there are visitor lounges off the elevator lobbies on the second, third and fifth patient floors and in the SurgiCenter.

  • Denture care supplies
  • Cash for small purchases, such as the daily newspaper

Wireless Internet Service

Wireless internet access is available throughout the hospital. To connect, select “NorthwellGuest” and accept the Terms of Use Agreement.


Your Room

All hospital beds are electronically controlled, and each room has its own thermostat. You will receive instructions on how to use both.
